TRACKING: LOOKING BACK AND THINKING AHEAD

Educational stratification has shifted over time, and important historical and legal aspects have influenced various changes.  It is important to consider the history of tracking, while also analyzing tracking in our schools at the present, and looking to a future that upholds quality education, as well as justice.  This diagram provides highlights of historical shifts in tracking, current research that concerns tracking in our schools, and teaching strategies that can be used to benefit all students. Refer to "The History of Stratification" and "Stratification in the Classroom" for more information.
